It’s only been a couple of weeks since our last substantial update, but we’ve been busy behind the scenes again — this time focusing heavily on the Treasurer section.
This is not a minor tweak. It’s a large-scale structural overhaul of how finances are handled inside The Working Tools.
With changes of this size, I fully expect a few bugs to slip through the net. Please do bear with me while I iron those out. The important thing to stress is that everything is fully backwards-compatible — no data has been lost, and nothing has been made inaccessible.
Rather than waiting for a future “big release”, any issues discovered will be patched quickly as they arise.
Treasurers can now create separate ‘Years’ within the system.
Invoices, Bills and Reports are now tied to a specific financial period, rather than everything living in one continuous stream. This reflects how Lodge finances actually operate in the real world.
Dues invoices being linked to a defined year simply makes sense — and as a Treasurer myself, this has been a particularly satisfying improvement to implement.
You can now formally close a financial year inside the system.
The process allows you to:
Produce an auditor’s report spreadsheet download
Upload signed-off accounts for record keeping
Lock the period once complete
This brings clearer structure, better accountability, and a much cleaner historical record.
Invoices and Bills payments now post directly into Bank Transactions.
This may sound like a small detail, but structurally it’s a big improvement. It means financial records flow more naturally and reduces duplication or manual reconciliation steps.
The Treasurer documentation has been updated to reflect these changes:

I’d strongly encourage you to create your Treasurer as a Delegate User and let him explore the new structure firsthand.
Feedback, bug reports and enhancement ideas are incredibly valuable at this stage. The Treasurer section is something many Lodges rely on heavily, so real-world use is what helps refine it properly.
We’re going to continue the trend of meaningful updates.
The next release is likely to be less structural, but it will focus on mopping up a large number of suggestions that have been coming in over the past few months. There’s a steady stream of thoughtful ideas from Secretaries and Treasurers alike, and I want to start working through more of those.
As always, thank you for supporting The Working Tools and helping shape its direction.
More soon.
S&F,
Karl
